Defendant Acquitted of Insulting Officer and Damaging Police Vehicle
The Criminal Court has acquitted a defendant of charges including possession of narcotics for personal use, resisting law enforcement with violence, insulting a police officer, and damaging a police vehicle.
According to the case details, a police officer noticed the defendant sleeping inside his car in a public area. Upon waking him, the defendant reportedly used offensive language toward the officer and brandished a knife in an attempt to attack him. The officer detained the defendant, and a subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered illegal substances.
During the trial, attorney Bashar Al-Nassar, representing the defendant, argued that the stop was unlawful as it did not meet the legal requirements for a valid stop-and-search. He further asserted that the arrest and subsequent search were invalid, rendering all evidence obtained inadmissible. Al-Nassar also highlighted the malicious and fabricated nature of the accusations.
The court, accepting the defense’s arguments, ruled that the stop-and-search procedures were illegitimate and invalidated all actions taken thereafter. Consequently, the defendant was acquitted of all charges.
